The year 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit in the Lunar/Chinese zodiac. Well, most of 2023 is, if you’re born before January 22nd this year you’re still a Tiger! For this year’s celebration, I designed a little bunny friend you can make!

Level: beginner-intermediate
You’ll need:
– Yarn and a hook, I used DK acrylic yarn and a 2,75mm hook (you can choose any kind of yarn for this, as long as the hook size keeps your work tight enough that no stuffing will poke through!)
– Stuffing
– A little bit of black thread, for the snout
– A sharp needle for the snout
– Safety eyes, for my doll I used 7mm
– A yarn needle
Method: this plushie is worked in rounds, not spirals. So you end each round with a slst in the first st of the round, and make a ch before you make the first st in the next round. Okay, let’s get started!
Head:
1. Make 6sc in magic ring
2. Inc x 6 (12)
3. (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4. (sc 2, inc) x 6 (24)
5. Sc around (24)
6. (sc 3, inc) x 6 (30)
7 – 10. Sc around (30)
11. (sc 3, dec) x 6 (24)
12. (sc 2, dec) x 6 (18) – stuff, place the eyes between rounds 8 and 9, with 5 empty stitches in-between.
13. Dec x 9 (9)
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Legs:
Make 1 first, fasten off. Then make a 2nd and
1. Make 6sc in magic ring
2. Sc, inc x 3 (9)
3 – 5. (3 rounds). Sc around
6. On the 2nd leg: don’t cut thread, chain 2 and slst in the first st of the 1st leg. Start a new round, work around leg 1, then in the 2 chain stitches, then around leg 2, and then in the back of the 2 chains. Now you should have 22st!
7 – 13. (7 rounds) sc around
8. sc 5, dec, sc 9, dec, sc 4 = 20
9. sc 4, dec, sc 8, dec, sc 4 = 18 – stuff here!
10. Dec x 9, fasten off
Arms:
1. Make 6sc in a magic ring
2 – 5. (4 rounds) sc around
Fasten off
Ears:
1. Make 6sc in magic ring
2. (sc, inc) x 3 (9)
3 – 5. (3 rounds) Sc around
6: dec, sc x 7 (8)
7. Dec, sc x 6 (7)
8. Dec, sc x 5 (6)
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Assembly:
Sew the head to the body – they both have 9 open stitches so you should be able to whip-stitch around it pretty evenly. Attach the arms to the sides. The ears are sewn between the head rounds 2 and 5. Embroider the snout using the picture as a reference, or go wild!
Optional: use a little bit of red eyeshadow and a paintbrush (dry) to give this bunny some red cheeks and inner ears.
Happy crafting!
