Alien Forked Tail: a free add-on for the voodoo doll pattern

Here’s a free add-on for a cute alien tail with 2 ends! It was made to fit the voodoo doll pattern, but you can use it for anything!

You’ll need:

  • Yarn & Colors Epic in green (or similar yarn)
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Scissors & wool needle
  • A little cloud of stuffing
  • Optional: a pipe cleaner

Stitches used:

  • Magic ring (mr) – alternatively, chain 2 and sc in 2nd chain from hook
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Slip stitch (slst)

1: Make 6 sc in a magic ring
2 – 5: sc around.

Cut yarn, pull through, but don’t sew away the tail yet!

You now have 1 end of the split tail

Make another one of these tips, but don’t cut the yarn on this one!

You make the left one first, and the right one second.

Now, you will keep your hook in the last stitch you just made, but the next stitch you will make is in the first tip. Look at the picture:

Left: first tip. Right: second tip.

Make your first sc in the left tip. Sc around in the next 5 stitches. You have now joined the two ends. You will now jump back to the second tip you made, in the exact same way. Make a sc in the first stitch of the second end, and then sc in the next 5 stitches.

This is what it will look like from the top.

The ends are now joined, and you will have 12 stitches in the round. There will be a little hole in the center between the two tips, use the yarn end from the first tip to close this gap.

Stuff the tips firmly.

6: (sc 4, dec 1) x2 (10)
7: sc around (10)
8: (sc 3, dec 1) x2 (8)
9 – 20: sc around (8)

Make a slst in the next st and cut your yarn. Leave a long end for sewing.

With a pencil or the back of your hook, stuff the tail a little. If you want, you can insert a pipe cleaner (folded in half) to make the tail bendable.

Enjoy!

All done!
